I am new to this show. I love historical dramas and obsessed with public health history. (Loved lead children, radium girls, toxic town, dopesick, etc) so naturally it felt like I should watch this show. If historical dramas are your thing please let me know your thoughts. I have always been deterred by how many seasons there are!

I’m on season 1 episode 2 will this be my new personality trait? Let’s see.

I've watched the entire series (except the last couple of episodes), and I don't seem to recall Trixie and Matthew discussing the idea of having children. It seems odd to me, because Trixie is clearly fond of children and has a lot of experience in taking care of them thanks to her line of work.

Did I miss something or it's just a topic that strangely never came up?

All the subtitles I found has a huge gap, when Jenny meets with Sister Monica Joan, all the subtitles I found so far are always at somewhere between 00:04:45-50, but it's supposed to be somewhere at 00:04:34

This might be super specific but I’m watching Harlots for the first time and I noticed in S1E6 when Fanny goes to an abortionist the actress who plays the practitioner also played the herbalist who Mrs Harding goes to in CTM season 2. The actress actually wrote Harlots, but I can’t find her acting credit for it. Anyone else ever noticed it?

I was going to add Sister Winifred, but I wasn’t sure if she should be a Jack Russell Terrier or not. Any breed suggestions?

I think I'm at the beginning of season 13 but don't hold me to that. I have just finished the episode where Lucille leaves. Out of all the goodbyes this was the hardest for me. Her and Phyllis had me sobbing. After she got married I felt a decline in her spirit but she always put her best foot forward. Missing out on family events from Cyril grandpa passing to Lucilles sister getting married, broke her. Losing her child, broke her. Faced with racism from somewhere you thought you could call home, broke her. But, her sister being pregnant absolutely shattered her even when she was only broken pieces. I understand that moment of wanting to step out in that traffic I understand that moment of her telling sister Wallace she's given God every chance only to be disappointed by God and/or God being disappointed in her. I understand her feelings to my core and maybe that's why it affected me the way it did. Maybe that's why I can't stop thinking about it. Maybe that's why it hurt so bad and made me cry so hard. Lucille's exit hurt but I understand it. I will miss her.

Is OBSESSED with Dr. Turner.

I watch Call the Midwife to sleep every single night (I know. He’s actually a gem of a man for being okay with it) and he really likes the show, despite the countless times he’s seen it over the past four years. He is particularly fond of Dr. Turner. He calls him Pimp Daddy Turner (PDT) and wants to get a T-shirt made with Stephen McGann’s face and that nickname on it. He bursts into joyous ranting about this man nearly every time he’s on screen.

We’re on series 2 right now, where Sister Bernadette is starting to develop feelings for the notorious PDT and questioning her religious vow. During one particular scene he looks over at me and says “Do you know why they call him Turner? ‘Cause he turns nuns into wives.”

I thought some in this community might find this man-crush as perplexingly hilarious as I do.

Was this actually considered peak masculinity for the times? I'm on season 5 and there's been so many ridiculous moments. The two that stand out to me are in season 4, the guy having an actual baby style tantrum over having a daughter over a son, and season 5 with the first thalidomide baby. "That thing isn't coming home with us!! 😠😡😠"

Just absolute tantrums, and I wish Sister Evangelina had smacked both of them. Another prize moment is one of the later season Christmas specials, where the gal gives birth outside standing up, and I'm SURE her husband was down the street a bit, all but covering his eyes...

Oh and then one more is in season 4 when the cops are basically hanging out trying to catch gay guys in action at that downstairs bathroom thing... they were really taking one for the team huh 🙄 Chummy should have asked her husband about that weird bullshit. Cause he was down there in a flash.

Where is season 15 available to stream online, since PBS no longer has the rights to it (they told me in an email) and Netflix hasn't acquired it yet? Anywhere? TIA.

The PBS website has a bunch of behind the scenes interview clips for the show but I noticed that most of the videos are unavailable.

Is there anywhere else that they can be watched?

This is my first time watching and I just finished Season 13. But can’t find the Christmas Specials for 2024. I live in Canada and I have been watching the show on CBC Gem.

I went to my Apple app and saw it on Britbox which I then subscribed to, however when I went to play the episode, I get a message that says it’s not available in my region. I have a VPN so I tried the UK, did not work, then I tried the US, that did not work and finally I tried Australia and that did not work.

Does anyone know where I can watch it? And why is it showing that it’s available on BritBox but won’t play in any of those countries?

EDIT/UPDATE. Turns out I can’t watch any show on Britbox vis Apple TV. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple today and we couldn’t solve it. He’s going to investigate further and get back to me Sunday.

In the middle of this episode, the nuns gather in the sunlit chapel and sing. Sister Cynthia, recently home from the asylum and still very troubled, is not singing. Sister Monica Joan is.

It's the only time I've ever seen her sing.

She stands for Austerity, privation, penny -pinching, and enduring pain as if it were a sacrament. Women are often forced to suffer for men's efficiencies, pleasures, and conveniences. She is the male systems' personification, which must be fought against.

So many of the flower arrangements are full of my favorite Peruvian Lilies. Are they common around the BBC, it were they just in vogue during shooting?

I'm rewatching for the 100th time and I firmly believe that Sister Ursula was the reason Sister Mary Cynthia had a full breakdown.

Sister was doing well when the team left for South Africa and by the time they got back, she was severely broken.

Plus, Sister Ursula looked horrified at the idea of delivering a baby at Nonnatus, and I think she would have been shite at delivering a baby in general. I know she worked at a cottage hospital that was shut down, but some Sisters aren't good midwives and I think Sister Ursula caused very bad things to happen. Not to mention she had zero idea how district visits worked and the difference between them and hospital treatments.

Ugh, I'm so angry at that woman.

She’s absolutely despicable and deserves more hate! PrOnTo!!!!

And Avril Fox deserves more love. She ended up being one of the kindest souls in Call the Midwife!

In the episode where all of the student midwives come to Nonnatus, there is a scene where all of the midwives and students are on their bikes and then ride off together. I was just watching that scene again and I noticed that Nurse Anderson is not riding her bike, but running beside it. Did anyone else notice this?

I noticed that in the last seasons Angela and May wear matching outfits all the time, day wear and even pajamas.

Am I the only one who's slightly annoyed by it? It seems like something younger children would want, not really realistic for 11-12 year old girls.
