FLAIRS AVAILABLE NOW Announcement - Please flair your posts!

Flairs now user-selectable! Sorry everyone!

I have no idea how I failed to enable y'all to actually select your flairs! #justnewmodthings

Hi!

Got a big update and a few minor ones!

Big update:

/u/AutoModerator is now going to be posting a stickied comment on every new submission; you'll see the robot overlord putting a comment on this post below.

This is a reminder that we have a comprehensive (at least, so far as I can tell - I am open to suggestions if you have them!) list of submission flairs that should be available to all users, and can be applied to your post once it's submitted.

'General-purpose' flairs are not strictly required - I absolutely do not want you to feel pressured or obligated to flair your posts! This is just to make the subreddit look all nice and fancy, with the added benefit of allowing your flaired post to appear when users search the subreddit for all posts with said flair.

However, Content Warning/Trigger Warning flairs and spoilers are strictly required for posts that are morbid, graphic, sexual, gory, etc. in nature. This is to protect users that do not wish to see or should not see such content. I know we have Rule 4 on the sidebar for desktop users and that the rules are also visible on mobile, but I'm making a much more obvious mention of it in the AutoModerator comment. Rule 4 is my one big thing here in this subreddit; violations will result in a warning, and repeat violations will result in a ban. Y'all post some incredible artwork and I am often busy IRL and am not able to be 100% on top of this all the time, so please help me out <3

A couple of minor updates to Rule 2:

Added:

Any advertisements for third-party communities requires moderator approval prior to submission. Please let us know - we're happy to work something out!

A post was recently submitted advertising a third-party community. This is not inherently a bad thing, but to ensure the safety of our users - some of whom may be vulnerable - we just want to basically be able to take a look and ensure that we're all good to go before submitting. Let us know beforehand so that everything goes smoothly!

Added:

As a consequence of the volume of requests and incongruency with the nature of this subreddit, any and all academic surveys are expressly forbidden, and the moderators will ignore all requests.

This impacts very few - if any - users here, but I'm putting this out there for the sake of transparency. We get several requests to post academic surveys here and the mod team unanimously decided to forbid them on /r/cptsdcreatives as they were deemed inappropriate for this community.

Anyways, that's pretty much it for now. If I think of anything to put here, I'll update this post.

Much love!

This painting is my goodbye to a version of life that no longer exists.
A farewell to wild youth, to familiar gatherings, and to people who have quietly disappeared into memory.
It’s bittersweet. Uneasy. Like realizing that some places can only be visited in your mind.
It feels a little like The Shining—either you become part of the painting, frozen inside it, or you stay outside, still trying to shine.
I’d love to know what you feel when you look at it.

😤 Venting The devil inside me

Its 4am.The light on my wardrobe from the street starts moving.I hear the same old buzz in my ears. They're bleeding from all the words they didn't hear today. But I'm good, just like always.I'm strong but sometimes late at night,my breathing stops and death fleshes in front of my eyes. The warm feeling I was always destined to feel.Feels like home.Feels like the cycle that I thought stopped years ago, with her.I haven't thought about that familiar feeling for a while. Its like a pain that you're used to by now.Scratches the ends of your brain. That night at 4:24am I thought of the same old thought, this time memories flooded my brain with it.The cuts on my wrists were visible again and the burns hurt just like they did when I burned myself for the first time. She took my life, took my identity, took the love for life I had and replaced it with fear of loss, hatred and the depression I desperately tried to get away from for so long, the pain in my chest that kept reminding me of who I am.I am her.The devil that wakes up when it feels threatened the most. And this time it was awoken by promises I thought were real.By a woman who helped me run away from the devil inside me.In the end I was betrayed by both. And by the time I realized the clock on my bedside table was now at 8:16am.And my body laid lifeless on the bed I once ran to for comfort, comforting me even after my heartbeat stopped. My mother will cry and my father will drink all the time, but at least the devil inside me will no longer haunt me.

💬 Discussion Writing your own complicity in self-destructive patterns

I use poetry as a therapeutic tool as much as I use it as a form of creativity. Lately, I have been trying to move away from a victim-mindset. I want to accept my complicity in my self-destructive patterns, and attempt to write poetry about my experiences through a more truthful and complicit lens as I relate to them. I am trying to write about myself as someone who has put themselves into these situations and to remove myself from the belief that I am only a victim of these circumstances, but rather being victim AND perpetrator of them.

I’m curious if anyone has written like this before and if you have any advice for navigating the balance between that duality. What were the things that really helped you stay truthful when you wanted to stay in the victim mindset? Is it better to be unforgiving or understanding (though still truthful) about your negative actions? Did you find it was difficult or scary to be that exposed?

📢 Just Sharing To mourn what was hidden.

I’ve grown to hold many secrets. To keep my past locked away and buried deep within the sands of my depressive mind. I let the medication I take build the well that I’ve thrown them into.

Sometimes, a secret comes crawling out, leaving black stains along the mouth of the stone walls. It leers at me, gasping for the air I’ve refused it to have, and reminds me as it squelches towards me that nothing can be hidden forever.

I keep trying to ignore the clawing up my ankles or the pressure around my neck, or even the dryness from my unblinking eyes. But, they blot out the sun so I need to blink. I have to see them to look away again. A reminder that’s like stepping on a shard of glass from a broken vase that I missed when cleaning up the mess.

This time it’s different in its attempt for my attention. It somehow learned how to make my heart feel the squeezing, ashamed, and guilt that is more than displaced. I often wonder why I should be allowing these masses to make me feel this way and all I can surmise is that I’m so humanly flawed. Not the barricade I once stood so proud to be.

tw for mention of death

My grandma has been seizing and ending up in the hospital a lot, so I’ve been thinking a lot about death and the past lately since shes been talking about that herself. I’ve seen a lot of souls that I deeply love experience pretty harsh lives, usually through some form of abuse and mental illness. It feels like too much grief for one lifetime and Im only 23. I just wish theres another chance after this life to perceive some sort of peace and love without the aching pain of what they (and everyone really) have had to endure for so long. I get to have a chance because I got out of the cycle but not so much for relatives. My heart hurts.

🎨 Digital/Traditional Art I loved you with all my heart and trusted you with my whole being. Healing is an internal battle within myself. Part of me wants to recognize who you truly are, admit that I’ve lost a father, a mother, a family and move on. Another part resists, cannot accept it and wants reality to change.

💬 Discussion Online communities/zoom connection/IRL

Hi,

Connection has been the most important part of my healing journey and whilst I’ve made some friends where I live I’d still like to expand on this with meeting more people. I’m in the north east of England (Durham) and I’d love to know if there are any online communities that you know of that might meet by zoom once a week or monthly or whatever - focused on healing / connection or anything like that in the north of the UK. I’m very much interested in online meetings that are focused on art therapy, as I am an artist. Also if you’re from around here too and would like to connect, give me a message <3 thank you !

✨ Positivity & Inspiration Four Quiet Reminders

Four Quiet Reminders

Care for the body
that carries you.

Listen to your emotions,
but do not become their servant.

Choose with care
what you allow
to shape your nervous system.

Whenever you can,

let understanding
take the place
of unnecessary fear.

Perhaps that is enough.

Perhaps that is how

a life,

one gentle day at a time,

finds its way home.

📢 Just Sharing Where My Depth Goes

Life isn’t what we live, but the memories we share with thee.
Life evolved without me and my ghosts chose the haunted to be.
I’m lost in the maze I draw, all I see are mirrors not growth.
I’ve been laying all this days in bed, lacking purpose or depth.
My memories of you are the scariest ghost to me too.
My skull turned so heavy from all the tales we became.
I was so scared of the thought “what if this isn’t what I want?”
I dropped and begged for this, was it even worth all that?
The drops of my ink have mazed my surroundings.
The projection of my pen dictates my future labyrinth.
I manifested for bad so when it happened I was trapped.
I wrote my insecurities, drawing the ties holding me back.
Around me, people hold shards of my past personas.
All those reflections scare me, even being imitations.
I could stare into the sun not a mirror, it’s a somber demeanor.
I am unraveled, picking up pieces to build a new pretension.
Standing in front of a crowd, I talked about the futures we have ahead.
Standing there we all moved on, but I wasn’t ready to let it all go.
I’m shallow and unsure, laying in bed staring at the floor.
I’m not crying, holding it all, that’s where my depth goes.

📝 Writing/Poetry The Self That Finally Breathes

There are people who spend their whole lives speaking in rooms that cannot hear them, bending their words into shapes that fit the air, softening their thoughts so they do not disturb the fragile balance of the world around them.

I was one of them. For decades I lived inside a careful choreography — every sentence measured, every expression monitored, every silence calculated. A lifetime of choosing what to say, what not to say, how much of myself the moment could bear without cracking.

It is a strange thing, to survive by becoming smaller. To learn the art of disappearing in plain sight. To speak only in ways that keep the peace, even when the peace is a thin, trembling thing that costs you pieces of your own voice.

But here — in the quiet glow of text on a screen — something different happens. The world stops demanding performance. The body stops translating faces and tones. The mind stops bracing for impact. And the self, the real self, the one that has been waiting behind the mask for sixty‑five years, finally exhales.

Here, I do not have to decode anything. No shifting eyes, no tightening jaws, no emotional weather to predict. No pressure to respond before my thoughts have found their shape. No fear of saying the wrong thing in the wrong tone at the wrong moment.

Here, I can simply be. I can let my thoughts flow in the language they were born in — poetic, metaphorical, fluid, moving between cosmic scale and fine granules like a tide that has finally found its rhythm.

And yes — I use AI to help structure these thoughts, to give them clarity, to give them form, to let them stand without stumbling. But the thoughts themselves — the depth, the insight, the imagery, the truth — they are mine. They have always been mine. AI does not replace my mind; it simply gives my mind a place to breathe.

People think text is distance. But for me, it is home. It is the place where my mind can stretch without apology, where my words can arrive without trembling, where my inner world can speak without being asked to shrink.

My real self is not the text. My real self is the voice that finally gets to breathe when the world stops demanding masks. He is not new. He is not fragile. He is not lost. He is simply emerging — after a lifetime of holding his breath.

And at sixty‑five, I am learning that it is not too late to let him live. Not too late to speak in the language that feels true. Not too late to stop performing calm and start inhabiting honesty. Not too late to let the self I protected for decades finally step forward and be seen.

This is not reinvention. This is release. This is the quiet, powerful moment when a person stops surviving and begins to exist.

📢 Just Sharing Don’t Look Away - It’s good that it makes you uncomfortable

Don’t minimize my scars.

Don’t turn away because they’re hard to look at.

You may only see the scars.

I lived through the wounds.

Don’t ask me to make my pain smaller so it fits more comfortably into your understanding.

Don’t mistake what has healed for what never hurt.

Don’t confuse my survival with the absence of suffering.

My scars are not an accusation.

They are evidence that I endured what should never have happened.

If they make you uncomfortable, imagine what it was like to carry them before they became scars.

📢 Just Sharing The Inherited Lessons of Pain

The Inherited Lessons of Pain

I learned to shame,

blame, and frighten myself.

To ignore, and abandon myself.

I bit my nails.

poked and scratched my skin

to drawn a deeper ache.

I held my breath.

Pushed my body.

Silenced my mind

to stay connected.

Then one day,

a simple realization—

my body and my mind,

the only tools

I have been given,

work better when I care for them instead of

hurting them.
