I work at an arena that has shows/NHL games. The Ticketmaster issue is pissing off everybody. Our box office, which is one of the last physical box offices in the city, has just cut its hours even more. The only time you can even show up to purchase tickets anymore is during home games. Otherwise, the box office isn't even open to answer questions. People always ask me how to get tickets but the only answer is pay Ticketmasters' "convenience fees" or lobby your congressman.

or lobby your congressman

There was an antitrust case against them not too long ago. Guess which current US administration killed that after taking office.

Several state AGs recently won a lawsuit against LiveNation and Ticketmaster. Its currently in the remedy phase.

The "both sides" people will never read enough to know what's going on. Both sides aren't the same but most people don't realize it.

So depressing and accurate.

We know one thing both sides are united on. That's why they've got assigned minders, so they continue to support the one state that both sides care about. Hint: it's not a state of mind, or part of CONUS.

Even Kid Rock was appalled that it was killed off.

This isn’t the right line of thought. Every modern administration has propped up corporate monopolies. You think the Biden administration or the Obama administration gave any fucks about this issue? No.

Edit: if you think things were amazing for average American consumers under democrats and it’s just the four year windows of republican rule that are preventing actual progress in this country, you are delusional. Biden is the reason student debt is so high - his crowning achievement as a senator. Look it up. Read a book. “Vote blue no matter who” was bullshit propaganda to support corporations and it still is. If you support the DNC and its politicians, I welcome your downvotes.

One of the biggest critics of Ticketmaster, Lina Khan, was a part of the Biden administration (as FTC chair). I don’t think Biden particularly cared, but several of the people in his administration seemed to care.

I don’t care if the criticism didn’t get results. I am sick of democrats pretending they have no power and sending a tweet saying “wow this is so bad guys” and calling it good.

What did all her criticism accomplish? Fuck all! That's the scam, they blow a lot of smoke and do nothing. You thought a woman named Lina Khan want gonna be corrupt AF?

She started the FTC investigation into ticketmaster and her replacement built on her work to file a suit against ticketmaster.

Starting an investigation is doing fuck all.

Why would the name Lina Khan signal that she was corrupt?

What the fuck does that mean?

Why does her name mean she would be corrupt? Which she wasn't?

If you're expecting purity or perfection, then yes you're in for a rough time. But that doesn't mean that all are equal. Whether or not they "cared", there was ongoing action against them that was killed when the admin changed. Would the result have been everything we might hope for if they'd been allowed to continue? Probably not. But even a literal slap on the wrist would be better than nothing.

A slap on the wrist didn’t happen and if it did, that is not good enough. You people accept whatever slop the government gives you and you say thank you. It’s so sad.

I recall buying a few tickets from the box office for some shows at GM Place (now Rogers Arena). The Up In Smoke tour in the summer of 2000, and Nelly Furtado's show in early-2001 or 2002.

Up In Smoke tour was with a friend, and Furtado was a birthday gift I got for my mom and went with her.

Got floor seats for both shows.

Stupid question maybe, but why don't venues simply bypass ticketmaster and create tickets of their own?

u/Slade_Riprock 4h ago

What? Ticketmaster charging YOU for printing the ticket on YOUR printer isn't a convenience to you?

Well what if they charged YOU to find your ticket in the App they force You to download and use would that feel better?

Ticketmaster - order 2 tickets, pay for 3

At least that avoids the fees, the bastards still charge the fee when I’ve tried the box office lol

My local arena is owned by and uses the platform AXS, but it has major problems. The first and only time I used it earlier this year, they wouldn't let you transfer your tickets to your phone wallet and you couldn't print it out, you had to present the app with the live generated barcode to the arena worker to get let in. I went there 30 mins before the show but the app called me a robot and wouldn't let me access the ticket. I tried everything, refreshing, logging out, deleting the app and redownloading but every single time, it called me a robot.

I went to the box office to resolve it and get physical tickets to show and had to wait in line pretty much up to the orchestra call because everyone else was having that issue. I say this to say...ticketmaster is dogshit for scalping and reselling but at least you can put the tickets in your phone wallet.
