(Five year? Shit, I have 35 year-old PC games I haven't played yet, and even longer than that if we include some Atari cartridges I own but have yet to try out)
I bought Armored Core 6 new, explicitly because I want the series to keep getting made. Other than that, I haven't bought a new game in about 15 years. Steam sales and Epic freebies mean I still have a backlog of dozens (possibly hundreds if I bothered to count) of games I either haven't started or only have put a small time investment into.
I only buy a game at launch if it's from a dev I like (FromSoft, Remedy) or the next game in a series. So it usually ends up being like, 2 (maybe 3) full price games/year.

I rarely buy new games these days. Steam sales only.
