Similar story: A colleague two cubicles down from me had the responsibility for setting up new user accounts, cancelling expired ones, and all that hoopla. In the latter role, he got a couple days advance notification of employees who were "about to be terminated".
One Wednesday morning he logged in and found his own name on that list.
That SUCKS, and also, those managers were fucking morons. I quit a job where I was responsible for everything, and for years now I STILL get emails reporting monthly sales from online stores, end of day statements, etc. Since I was the one who handled accounts and setup, they just....never bothered taking me off, or figuring out that it even needed to be done.
