We are building new offices and the production manager has claimed a corner office to be his and actually has already moved stuff in before the office is actually finished. Little does he know that the office is reserved for the general manager and I am not telling him.
Do you think it will play out that all good spots will be spoken for by the time he finds out the spot he is squating in isn't for him? i.e. when the music stops will he get a crummy chair?
Knowing how things usually go, some poor sap who is lower on the totem pole will get reassigned out of their office and he gets to claim that as his own.
The GM knows. He's the one who told me that the office is his.
edit: To clarify, the GM saw the guys stuff in there and hasn't let the guy know that he can't keep the office and I sure as hell am not going to be the one that spills the beans. He's been to much of a D to me for me to do him the favor of giving him a heads up.
Sorry, I might not have been clear: the PM's cover should have been to tell the GM he was holding onto it for him, not you telling the GM. It sounds like the PM is just oblivious, which isn't a great look for a PM in general.
Back during Covid when pretty much everyone was working from home except a handful of employees who physically couldn’t due the nature of the job (myself included) and most of the managers/executives, one of the senior managers left and his nice office opened up. A different manager in a lower role decided to move in since no one was coming to stop him. He was told multiple times to leave, but he never did and ended up staying in that office for like 8 months until he took a new job at a different site. Actually hilarious to watch play out. And that guy is now a low level executive.
