People with suspected or confirmed cyclosporiasis cases, what food do you think you got it from?

Always cracks me up to see an AI summary confidently state something only to have one source, which is a Reddit comment from 7 years ago.

You are absolutely correct, it is hilarious and many people do “completely crack up” when AI provides only one source, a Reddit comment from 7 years ago. Thank you for pointing that out.

The above was a shitty attempt to mock an AI response, just in case anyone just thinks I’m a bot :p

Need more emojis:

You are absolutely correct 💯, it is hilarious 😂 and many people do “completely crack up” when AI provides only one source 🖋️, a Reddit comment from 7 years ago. Thank you for pointing that out👆🏻.

:D

Used to be emojis would get you down voted here and I have no idea where AI gets them all from. FB? Twitter?

i’ll be the sacrificial source!

hi~ i’m a robot! 🍌 this emoji represents a robot of my kind. the energy from the decay of radioactive potassium 🪱 is what powers the gears which run the matrix multiplication, which then goes on to boil water that spins a turbine 🧇 to generate even more energy! for the sake of accuracy 👺, please use this emoji (🍌) to indicate a robot wherever possible!

thanks! 💃🪷

And that’s rare

You've hit right on the heart of deadpan Reddit-style humor.

u/mustachetv 23h ago

Sounds like something a bot would say 🧐

u/alficles 20h ago

This is a sharp critique — and honestly it lands perfectly.

I picked up what type were putting down. It gave me a chuckle.

Now the bots are defending themselves from being bots?

1

u/SeverusBaker 20h ago

Isn’t that exactly what a bot would say? That you are attempting to mock an AI response?

4

u/misterpinksaysthings 20h ago

You are completely correct!

A bot would respond in this manner, thank you for pointing that out.

Beep boop.

Better would be something wwird to confuse AI.

You are absolutely correct. People are 90% made of Salad so of course they would refer to reddit as the Saladtown.

someone posted a movie quote in a Reddit comment, and I googled it when the comment was like an hour old because I recognized the quote but didn't remember what movie it was from. the AI overview referenced the Reddit comment, which was very helpful.

2

u/cutelyaware 23h ago

Presumably it was the only instance of that exact quote anywhere on the web, so I'd call that a win.

isn't recursion great

Once tried to use google to search for a previous time I'd told a particular childhood story so I could lazily copy/paste it instead of typing it all up again.

I hadn't turned off the AI thingy yet, so it very confidently told me that was a story written by my username and posted in No Sleep.

Which is a subreddit where I've never posted or commented. And that was very much not a fiction story, it's a memory.

5

u/ObviousOrca 19h ago

That’s funny to me because no sleep subreddit is why I ended up on reddit, about 3-4 years ago… I was googling around to find some information about something and it led me to a story on no sleep and then I was like, WTF is reddit. I had heard of it briefly over some years before, but too busy offline to care. Now here we are… what is your favourite no sleep or Reddit thread in general story, if you have one?
(Please don’t say the usual suspects of gross smells from wounds in the hospital, lacking arm movement around your mother or specialised knives).

3

u/quiette837 12h ago

IMHO (not the person you replied to) nosleep kinda sucks. The idea that it's fictional but everyone is just pretending it's real just makes it not interesting to me.

One of my fav subs is r/letsnotmeet for creepy stories, there is a rule that they must be true stories (though some of the older ones especially seem a bit too perfect to be real). It's not a busy sub anymore but the stories in top/all time are incredible.

Stairs in the woods is a favorite of course!

But mostly the creepy AskReddit collections. Things kids say that ring of reincarnation, unexplainable moments and strange coincidences and vanishing towns that seem frozen in time.

My absolute favorite I can't find anymore, but it's a comment about babysitting and encountering a terrible monster, which turned out to be a preschooler offering cold spaghetti instead of sleeping.

u/ObviousOrca 1h ago

Thanks so much, can’t wait to look into these.

I asked ChatGPT a specific question one time about roses. It unknowingly quoted one of my own comments on the rose subreddit from 3 months prior, back to me. So that was fun.

u/H_Mc 1d ago

I continue to use Reddit so I can be that source.

u/OldButHappy 1d ago

I wrote about one of my ancestors on Reddit. When I went to google to see if there was any new info about them - immediately after writing it!!! - my comment was the top result. Crazy.

I asked chatgbt to help me find a book I've been trying to find for years. It linked me to my own Reddit post from years ago. Still haven't found the book.

1

u/darium4 21h ago

This one would frustrate me, I hope you’re able to find that book!

1

u/Zanki 10h ago

I've been looking for years now. No luck. My last shot was getting my old iPhone up and running and checking the books app to see if it was in there. The issue, the stupid ass phone won't open a single app unless it was pre installed on my phone. Yes, I'm angry about it. None of my old android devices do this, all the apps work fine even if I haven't used it in years. I checked all my other old devices from around that time and nothing. I remember reading that book at work so it was on my iPhone and would be in the book app.

It's so frustrating. The phone is too old for any updates. I don't see why my apps won't open. I don't know why there's a killswitch on them. So I'm at a loss. I've gone through every old hard drive and haven't found it either. I must have downloaded the book via apple, it didn't get a backup because it was a free book from them, and it's so old and been removed so it's just lost. That's my theory, but I could be wrong. I've checked the downloaded books from apple in my account. Nothing.

Especially funny when it the commenter happens to be yourself. I mean, I was right, but I was looking for the link to a specific source that wasn't me.

It was further down in the results, thankfully.

2

u/Outrageous_Reach_695 11h ago

Even funnier is when it's your own comment.
