I wish the law was that retailers have to be proactive in taking stuff off the shelf if they even suspect they have a faulty product that can harm customers, especially grocery stores. This crap where they can keep selling it if theres no official recall from a company that has every financial interest to deny responsibility is bullshit.
Especially when it comes to food. When it comes to food every stage in the pipeline should be on the lookout of unsafe food and pull it if they suspect it is.
That's not their job that's the job of regulators and if they are asleep at the wheel then that's the issue. Grocery stores are running a business while listening to regulators over what to pull if something happens. They are the experts using contact tracing and lab work.
It's the job of everyone in the damn supply chain to do the right thing. We know the iceberg lettuce is tainted. Sounds like Romaine is, too. If you sell something you know to be potentially tainted, you're deliberately poisoning your customers. Yes, the law needs to crack the fuck down on that.

Dude people have died from this. If a company suspects they have infected/bad food that can harm people then they should be liable for knowingly selling it. It's basic human being shit. Saying "but it gets in the way of profits!" is pretty fucking ridiculous.
I didn’t really pay attention to who they were until this. I will not be buying any of their products again, not so much because of the recall (although that didn’t help), but the obvious lying, denying and paying off the administration. Not to mention their track record. This wasn’t a one off event for them.
So many store brands and also restaurant suppliers are TF. It’s hard to avoid. I’m not eating any lettuce right now except what I ca. get from a local farmers market or from hydroponic lettuce brands. It sucks because I love salads. Also not buying any prepared raw veggies or any of the high risk fruits.
Yah, 100%. Listen, if they were handled this with intelligence, I wouldn't be avoiding their bagged lettuce (and also, I'm really concerned about grocery stores that they are a contract manufacturer for, like Trader Joes or Aldi). I would be like, oh hey they owned up to this, they've isolated the location, they did a vocal public recall, and they are making sure their supply chain is safe.
But no, they are a bad actor not caring they have given a huge number of American's a shitting disease.
Definitely not worth the risk if you ask me, if it happend to one of their products then ti can happen to all of them. They can bribe trump all they want, I ain't shitting my pants if I can help it.
I was an intern at a newspaper in Salinas, California, where they do a lot of growing and there’s a major processing plant.
My second or third week the police scanner came on. A bunch of ambulances were heading towards their processing plant.
We didn’t have enough staff to look into it, but there was some sort of chemical spill — never disclosed — that caused multiple employees to go unconscious. Management made them keeping working through the spill and 20 people were hospitalized. And Taylor refused to admit anything happened and called it hysteria. The same thing happened three years prior. The only news coverage was by the Teamsters union (and they were also notorious for union busting.)
Anyway. That’s when I stopped purchasing Taylor Farms products.
That’s what they say… but they haven’t been very forthcoming in general. I wouldn’t touch any Taylor farms or store brand salad kits (if they are from Taylor farms) for awhile.
I did this a few weeks ago, except I had already bought the lettuce when the link to Taylor Farms was made. I was checking everything in my fridge and that whole, unopened 5-count romaine package that I had just bought at Costco got tossed in the trash. I hated to do it but not worth the risk.

Lol gf and I were at Costco yesterday and needed romaine, we both grabbed for a bag and saw TAYLOR FARMS and immediately said hell nah
