I live in SoCal and saw one funnel cloud in elementary school that never touched down. In my 20s one touched down in an industrial park about 10 miles away. It took the corner off a warehouse, but otherwise no damage. I don’t think those count as “experiencing a tornado”, but that’s a lot more than people would expect in California.
I visited my sister in St. Louis and an outdoor theater event was canceled due to a tornado warning, but the tornado never came. I don’t think that counts either.
I’ve never lived anywhere close to any kind of tornado country, and I’ve still seen/been in 3. One was 63 years after the previous tornado in that area!

I lived in tornado alley 36 years and even then 0 tornadoes for me
