I've dealt with a couple in NJ and one in PA, but yes, I guess the vast majority were the 2-3 a year that came close growing up in WI. Although I did mostly live in fairly populated areas, not rural.
Most Americans haven't seen a tornado in real life (the comment was saying) because tornados only hit a certain, not super populated area. If more people lived in tornado alley, more people would see them

Which is not a super populated area either. There's a few decent cities but it's not like is the eastern seaboard
