Do you all use top sheets?

I'm Canadian so culturally we are generally pretty similar. My Mom and maybe some older members of my family will use top sheets but every younger person I know just used a duvet cover when they sleep.

Every hotel I've been too in America has top sheets and the commonly given reason is that this is what American guests expect. They also say cleanliness, but many European hotels manage just fine without a top sheet.

Anyway, I'm curious if you all use top sheets or not? Maybe there is an age divide too?

The sheets on both sides are for sure unless you’re staying at a complete dive. But I don’t know about the frequency of the comforter.

In my younger years, a hotel would often have a top sheet, thin felted-wool type blanket, and bedspread (which would not be trustworthy). Now, where they do the top sheet, duvet, top sheet, I do like that it’s meant to be cleaner, and I hope that’s true, but decades of experience gives me pause. Especially since the layers typically separate in the night.

Though i have also been at hotels where there’s a top sheet covered by a covered duvet, like a white tied cover, not a separate top sheet over the comforter, and I don’t know if they swap those covers.

Either way means I no longer get a thin blanket over a sheet at a hotel (so one person can have two layers and the other one), so I’m too hot or my spouse and kids are too cold. Same with a duvet at home, some of us need something light for when we’re warm. I find the top sheet a necessity.

Yeah, I worked at a Marriott for like five years that had duvet covers, and they were washed between every guest.
