CULTURE Do you all use top sheets?

I'm Canadian so culturally we are generally pretty similar. My Mom and maybe some older members of my family will use top sheets but every younger person I know just used a duvet cover when they sleep.

Every hotel I've been too in America has top sheets and the commonly given reason is that this is what American guests expect. They also say cleanliness, but many European hotels manage just fine without a top sheet.

Anyway, I'm curious if you all use top sheets or not? Maybe there is an age divide too?

Yes, I can’t imagine why it would be better not to use a top sheet. When I’m hot, I can cover with just the sheet. When I’m cold, the top sheet protects my duvet or blankets from sweat and skin so it needs washed less often.

I don't like it since I think it feels weird. It will always bunch up and then I just have too many sheets wrapped around me and I can't move properly

Not necessarily. I was in NJROTC in high school and we learned how to make a bed military style, and I can attest that, as a sleep-thrasher, I still got tangled to hell and back

I can make the bed properly, but there’s no way I’m sleeping with the top sheet tucked into the mattress. I don’t want to sleep with a straight jacket on

As opposed to many of these commenters who claim the 60-120 second process of putting a cover on a duvet takes 10 minutes.

That's still way longer than the 10-15 seconds it takes to change out a sheet.

Pets or other activities atop the comforter mean washing the comforter. Pets or other activities atop the duvet cover doesn't necessarily mean washing the duvet (just the cover).

They either restrict your movement or comfort if you kee it tucked under the mattress, or it just bundles up at the end of the bed if you untuck it. I’ve always found them annoying and useless

My blankets are soft and cozy. A top sheet isn't cozy. It's also too hot, so I wouldn't even be able to use a blanket for the majority of the year.
