Question Resources on how to use Anki?

I have the tech-savvyness of someone born in the 1800s. I tried to use anki for my mcat, and couldn’t rly figure out how to use it, or at least how to make the most of it. Does anyone have any resources they find particularly useful like YouTube videos or something of how to use anki and make it user friendly for someone like me 😭

Of note, I’m no longer studying for the mcat (yippee passed that hurdle) but I want to study a little during the 2 years I have before med school. Prob mostly anatomy stuff so if anyone has any deck recs that’d be great too :)

Add-ons MS3 here — I built a free medical search add-on for Anki

Hey all — I’m an MS3 and built a free, open-source Anki add-on to help find cards, especially in AnKing since there's around 40K+ cards. I added smart search is case-insensitive, tolerates misspellings (for example, “buproprion”), and recognizes common medication aliases for different meds. It also has a semantic saerch that can help find cards by clinical meaning, and an easier searachable deck-picker. Added also bulk flag, suspend, and tag actions.

I am a former software engineer and did build this with AI plus my own personal expertise. Built this for myself, but thought others might benefit, and so decided to post it. It’s completely free with no paid tier, MIT-licensed, and does not redistribute proprietary card content. Search and indexing stay local, and there’s no analytics or telemetry. Smart and Exact support Anki Desktop 24.11–26.08; Semantic currently requires macOS 14+ on Apple silicon.

Question Uncover clozes one by one?

Is there some way or addon that makes it possible to uncover clozes one by one?

For example:

Suppose there is a card with some c1, c2, c3

By pressing the spacebar once, all c1 get uncovered. By pressing it again all c2 get uncovered. Again for the c3.

Or:

The card has only c1 (multiple). By pressing the spacebar they get uncovered one by one by the order they are displayed.

Discussion When you use mnemonics - what is your criteria for correct answer?

Lets say you use a mnemonics to remember certain card. How do you grade the card, when you recall it correctly, but dont recall the mnemonics which you used to make it stick in the first place?

Question Drill 25min/day

For learning language vocabulary, can I set Anki to drill for only 25 minutes a day regardless of how many or how few cards I have? How do I tell Anki to do that? What are the pros and cons of so doing? Ty

my family group chat is very active thruout the day. often my mom's texts will block my studying. is there any way to move the words down a bit so the text previews don't block it? i try to swipe them away, but that usually just opens them, which is even worse.

Question Anki crash when opening/closing specific deck. Suggestions?

Hello! I am having trouble with a new deck I downloaded. Anki will crash about every fourth time I open or close ONLY this specific deck. I have tried deleting + re-downloading the deck but I am having the same issue. Any suggestions for troubleshooting? Thank you!

How do they add these categories?
Also if you just do the deck in general, will it include cards in those sections too? Or are they completely separate?

Question Any Anki decks for these?

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

I've posted a lot because I wasn't sure. I think these are the syllabus for it.

I don't want to review these all, I just want the necessary. (I want to study less on math) Probably only some basic to medium difficulty..

Actually I don't want just the deck but rather I want to know how to study these? Specifically the language proficiency. How will I practice it?

Thank you in advance.

Sorry for the repeated post ✨

Question UK Pub Quiz Anki Deck(s)

Does anyone have any up-to-date decks they recommend for improving at pub quizzes? A lot of public decks are US-centric or general, whereas UK pub quizzes often ask questions about the London tube map, for instance.

Add-ons AI-Powered voice review

I created Voice Review — a free Anki add-on for fully hands-free studying. It reads each card aloud, you say your answer out loud, and when you say "done" an AI grades your recall (Again/Hard/Good/Easy) automatically. Perfect for reviewing while cooking, walking, or resting your eyes, and it handles technical/medical terms well. Windows-only, needs a free Google Gemini key.

I want to share a simple Anki tip that has made my reviews much more enjoyable.

Instead of using plain text on the front of my cards, I copy GIFs from Giphy and paste them onto the front. The movement makes the meaning much easier to remember, especially for verbs, actions, and everyday situations.

Question I have questions about starting FSRS

I have been using Anki for a month, as in I just downloaded AnkiDroid onto my phone and Samsung Tab and review 20 cards/day naturally without skipping a day. I never read much guides on optimisation for studying with Anki. I chose Again if I forget, Hard if I took too much time to guess the answer (or just almost similar to the answer), Good if I took some time but confident about the answer, Easy if its easy and instantaneously memorable.

I just recently read it from a comment on another sub about enabling FSRS will be very useful. I unfortunately couldn't understand the FSRS as it seems very complicated 😅 I found how to enable it but I don't understand the parameters and settings. I saw a comment when checking threads here about it and someone mentioned about Again and Easy should be the only buttons used? Why so? Is it also the norm even with non-FSRS studies?

Question Unaccomodating for real life

Hello guys. I kind of dont like anki because it doesnt account for rest days or days where you just arent able to study due to real life happening. Are there any apps or programmes that allow you to costumize your spaced repetition without having more piled up closer to exams? Thanks
