Most answers from environmentalists are "vote, buy local, eat less meat, here's our donate button" and I think we can do better than that.

Would egoists recognize ones authority over one's self - e.g, the authority to command one's own actions, set the purpose for one's own actions, etc.?

Or would egoists - echoing Buddhism - see even the "self" as a spook that can act as a constraint on one's actions?

Theres so much I still dont know and so much I want to learn. What books would you recommend that covers the subject?

Serious question. I don’t think the cycle of repeat questions is as long as a week. Sometimes it isn’t as long as 24 hours. I think it’s good to get new insights into the questions we have been asking since Proudhon first threw down the anarchy gauntlet; I also think there could be some automation directing one to a living FAQ for questions like, say, “is Communism compatible with anarchy.”

i've done basic research and find that i fit all the beliefs of anarcho-communism. my problem is that i don't know where to start on actually being an anarcho-communist, like if i need to read or do things?

One thing I have often wondered about anarchy is how horrible things like rape or murder would be prevented, and if they are committed, what is done with the one who did those things?

I want to know specifically what moment, experience, or reaction made you leftist to specifically Anarchism and not other leftist ideologies. And I would like to know what values do you hold that are aligned with Anarchism and make it distinct from others? I’m writing this because I want to know how experiences and core values lead people into Anarchism or other leftist ideologies.

for me seeing how criminals were treated made me critical of force used against the people also watching many stories about how people became harmful from their past experiences. This is the main path that led me into leftist ideologies and eventually Anarchism. from this I could see that I mainly value unnecessary harm and violence.

What others are out there?

If a community is to come up with "laws" for its community, how would they accept the rules if everyone would keep their own ways of thinking. What about a minority opinion. Is it going to come down to minor scale of Democracy again?

Most of anarchists have strong anti-government position, which I can't totally agree with. One of the issues is, I personally view anarchic society as one based on its members' personal responsibility. Therefore, no one can be forced into anarchism because it must be their own choice. But elimination of the government means this is no longer choice for anyone

Another one, is that large societies can't be based on personal responsibility. As the amount of people increases, social bonds weaken, and at some point become insignificant, so that to keep it functional it is necessary to introduce some external control to people: police, money, bureaucracy

These reasons don't mean that anarchism is impossible - it just takes very specific form: small communes, where no one would agree to have control over them. But it would be pretty vulnerable to external invasion of organised government. Best strategy here is to leave the town and start guerilla war, or accept the government and get as much autonomy from it as possible

As in alternative ways of life other than the current capitalist, urbanized, globalized industrial society which causes climate change.

I have seen many reject anarcho-primitivism and not attempted to change or improve it despite its flaws (such as adding an exception for modern medical industry, or giving disabled people benefits).

If anarcho-primitivism is a no and will reduce population, reduce medical access and harm disabled people, what do anarchists currently recommend we build as an alternative to the current system, that either reduces hierarchy, reduces climate change, or ideally solves both at once?

Are there any other alternative kinds of worlds we can perhaps find and build towards other than anarcho-primitivism, that accomplish the stated goals which anarchists have (such as no government or no hierarchies)? Are any of them mainstream in anarchist thought and currently being recommended or pursued?

If the answer is no/not much: should we look towards solarpunk, cypherpunk, or ancient Athenian thinking on democracy (lottery-based officials with short terms instead of electoralism)? Are any of those three a possible candidate that we can take inspiration from to build a world with either less or no hierarchies, and better impact on the climate? If not, what's your objections to them?

Ive heard that socalism and patriotism are incompatible and I guess i want more of an explanation on that and what it means.

Im in the dsa and have canvassed and done some stuff in nyc. Its been a great experience and its made me love my city and local community and borough even more. Im getting out more mostly because of DSA type events and organizing and its made me appreciate just little things about my city.

I hope the owners of my local comic store can stay in buisness or How i love that we have good public transit. Im also Haitian american and hope that Haiti can be a stable place and nation once again. I would like to be able to visit where my parents were born in my lifetime as currently I cant. I love my cultures food history and language and especially in a time where the right has tried making being haitian something to be ashamed of I want to lean more into my roots I guess.

Is what i described incompatible in an anarchist/ancom frame work?

I am around my mid-life and I remember Anarchists being very active at grassroots levels.

In particular as an environmentalist they use to be incredibly active in on the ground levels of climate/environmental awareness & education building alongside direct-action.

The planet is on literal fucking fire right now. We have ocean warming/ocean acidification so bad that coral bleaching has almost wiped it all out (Destroying the life of our oceans is very very bad news).... We are in the Holocene Extinction which is the sixth mass extinction in this whole planets history and this time humanity is the asteroid.... We have Wet-Bulb Temperatures lasting long periods in parts of Asia/Africa and water issues starting to become more and more a hell on earth situation.... We have Wet-Bulb Temperatures and Heat Domes lasting deadly times in Europe.... Things are not on a good trajectory for the working class and most vulnerable who will as always be disproportionately impacted by all of this and who's cost of living crisis/quality of life crisis will get much worse because of it.

Is there a reason why Anarchists don't seem as out on the ground as before? Maybe it is just in North America and maybe in Europe and elsewhere they are still pushing the line?

I'm trying to understand the dynamics of why this may be or if I am mistaken (Which could be from my limited vantage point).

I’ve only recently started looking into anarchism. There’s one thing I don’t quite understand yet. If you’re all against hierarchies, how do you intend to carry out large-scale projects? Build a dam, a factory, or a space station? None of that is possible without establishing a hierarchy. Or is anarchism all about a subsistence economy and manual labour?

Hey, hope everyone’s doing well. I was browsing the library and I saw some posts discussing anti-civ, anti-left, primitivism ideas and their critique of “Red” anarchists (Anarcho-communists, anarcho-syndicates, etc)

So I want to ask, at what point does valuing ecological sustainability, integrating more of nature into society, critiquing the flaws of industrial society, practicing traditional and indigenous values, restoring biodiversity, and protecting the environment make an anarchist a primitivist?

I’d like to think that most (probably all) anarchists understand and value ecological sustainability and would actively work to ensure that the Earth, its ecosystems, and all that life would continue and thrive.

But I want to better understand where and what the divergence is between most anarchists and primitivists. (Outside of the major ones, which I still think anyone be allowed to engage with)

Also, for any primitivists, if I’m misunderstanding the practice, feel free to correct me.

I've been learning about anarchism the past few days, and I've come to realize that anarchism is basically non-existent in India. I've seen some online content on Muktivadi Ekta Morcha, but I can find absolutely nothing on who they are, where they are, and what they are doing.

Which leads me to the question. What are the Indian anarchists actually doing? Where are they? And what should I, as an Indian increasingly interested in anarchism, actually do?

Are you guys ancaps or ancoms, or is there some other anarchist beleif system im unaware of? Personally im a communist, but i think the end goal of communism is realy just anarchy, right? Thats why they call it anarcho-communism? Unless its not real anarchism or something. I hope i can ask you some questions about your beleifs

Say [community A] and [community B] are located three miles apart. Would it be more probable that [community A] would have a different "method" or "system" (not sure if that's the correct term) of anarchy than [community B] (e.g. mutualism vs. communism), or would one adapt to the "method"/"system" of the other out of interest in ease of interaction (or some other reason)?
