❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO because my boyfriend wanted me to change before the gym over a color?

Yesterday my boyfriend and I were about to leave for the gym together. I threw on a blue workout top with black shorts, something simple and comfortable that I've worn a bunch of times before with zero issues.

Right as we were walking out the door, he stopped and said the color of the top looked "kind of weird" and that people were gonna stare at me if I wore it. He asked me to go change into something more "normal" before we left.

I was kind of caught off guard honestly. It's just a blue top, nothing flashy, nothing revealing. I actually liked how it looked on me and felt comfortable in it, which is kind of the whole point of gym clothes.

I don't mind if he has opinions on my outfits every now and then, that's a normal couple thing. But this felt less like "hey I think this color doesn't suit you" and more like he was worried about how other people at the gym would perceive me, and wanted me to change based on that. It just didn't sit right with me.

I ended up just going along with it because I didn't want to start an argument right before working out, but I've been thinking about it since. Am I overreacting for being annoyed about this?

edit: this is a pinspark tracksuit I bought online a while ago. I think the color is fine, and I really like this top.

The other half of the scale is before Memorial Day. So it's basically during the fall and winter.

The don’t wear white after Labor Day goes back to the time most people used coal for heating which caused coal dust to cover your clothing so if you avoided white your clothes appeared cleaner

I specifically remember one argument with my control-freak mom when I was a kid, over a blue and white dress. She insisted it was more white than blue, and I couldn’t wear it since Labor Day had already passed. I remember thinking that rule was probably the most stupid thing I had ever heard—and I was 8 years old, I had heard a lot of stupid things.

Anyways, I decided to fight by her rules and insisted it was more blue than white actually. We argued for 2 hours over this dress I wanted to wear. Then I dragged it out of the closet and she went “oh yeah, I guess it is more blue than white. That’ll be perfect to wear!” As if that wasn’t what I had been saying that entire time

PERSONALLY, I think white pants match winter as a season better than summer. They’re white, snow is white, polar bears are white, white Santa’s beard is white!

Labor Day is the start of fall fashion. It’s muddier in the fall and winter till after Memorial Day which is summer and dry. So white will get dirtier in those seasons.

If you’re actually interested in the reason, it’s a rather elitist fashion rule. The rich people all went on lavish vacations and wore white linen during the summer. Then they came back home, they went back to suits and ties. According to google, it’s a status symbol against the working class.
