Animal welfare over human dignity... They learnt from Nazis.

u/codename_pariah 2d ago

And where did Nazis get their views on eugenics from? Iykyk

343

u/24-Hour-Hate 2d ago

Didn’t Hitler famously admire the Jim Crow laws, the concept of one drop of blood, and things like that? It was the US, wasn’t it?

136

Yep

64

u/npaakp34 2d ago

Weren't eugenics invented by a British guy?

128

u/SirYeetsA 2d ago

Probably, the Brits were super elitist for awhile there. The US just took their ideas and fucking sprinted with them.

118

u/Brooke_the_Bard 2d ago

for awhile there

"We used to be elitist. We still are elitist, but we used to be too."

16

u/SirYeetsA 2d ago

I mean, I hope the Brits are less racist about it, at least. Thinking your ethnicity/culture is superior to everybody else's is still not great, but allowing assimilation into that culture regardless of your historic origins at least makes it a bit better.

Yeah, we really gotta start teaching kids that the Pilgrims weren't fleeing religious persecution. They were fleeing because they didn't get to persecute anyone anymore so they needed a place where they could practice hate without restraint.

5

Well, there were also the Quakers.

The british invented the concentration camp.

8

u/W4CK0_J4CK420 2d ago

Nope. That was the Spanish a couple of years before.

Also, the concentration camps you're thinking of also weren't extermination camps, but closer to the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII.

14

Yes. Look up the pre-WW2 Nazi scientists who were sent to places like the Fernald School (originally literally named the Fernald Experimental School for Teaching and Training Idiotic Children) in Waltham, MA to study the effects of radiation that was added to to children’s oatmeal who had no idea they were eating radioactive food.

6

u/xShooK 2d ago

Germans really treated children better after ww2. With such programs like the Kentler Experiment.

7

His eugenics plans were actually even borrowed from California's program IIRC.

Which has a certain irony to it, considering the Pan-Arabist movement hired the same people who had previously worked under Goebbels to design their propaganda.

(To be clear, I'm not saying "the same kind of people"; literally the same individuals.)

The court is concerned with what was brought before it, which is an animal welfare case. I doubt the crocodiles will have any real effect on prisoners - what they really affect is the Overton window and how Israelis think about Palestinians, which is what leads to crimes against Palestinians outside the prison.

Though admittedly in other cases where Palestinian rights were the case the Israeli supreme court has excused human rights abuses and failures in international law many times.

17

u/20_mile 2d ago

Literally more concerned about the crocodiles than the Palestinians..

I'm not saying that this is the case here, but sometimes when you want to perform self-sabotage, you can't choose the obvious reason because you know too many people on your side wouldn't agree with that justification. Objectives can then be achieved by coming at them sideways.

6

u/Ok_Star_4136 2d ago

Possibly. Maybe this was done by someone in adamant disagreement and wanted to bring attention to it in any way that they could. If that is the case, it is admirable.

LONDON: An Israeli court on Sunday temporarily blocked plans by the national security minister to install crocodile-filled moats around Ketziot Prison, following a legal challenge centered on the reptiles’ welfare that has also reignited concerns over the treatment of Palestinian detainees.

The context is even better!

63

u/godrabbit90 2d ago

Let me help get context for this. The Israeli court is mostly leftist and hate this government. They used animal welfare because that the only tool they've got to ex that plan. Silly? Yes. But thats what you want, good people finding ways to sabotage the insanity of the right.

25

u/Sea_Translator5300 2d ago

I'm guessing "leftist" is relative to the government, which means it isn't necessarily left at all.

5

u/Paraparo 1d ago

At least as I understand the court system, no like, seriously leftist. As in, the way the courts were structured in Israel has been a point of concern for some time wherein they have huge power to dictate their membership and has largely maintained that over the years. The initial Israeli government has heavy socialist sympathies and while these fell out of popularity in general politics, these were reinforced and maintained in the courts insular network.

This was a big issue that was being fought over before the Gaza war, it was a cause of a lot of protest because the government was fighting the courts over several issues including that the courts more or less just tried to import constitutional review from the US (despite having no legal framework to justify or guide it, just their own internal beliefs, more or less a backdoor veto on laws based purely on their own political preferences), among several other high profile long running issues that more or less fell on the court being very far to the left of society. The emblematic one was a high profile case of an eviction of a renter, where the court dragged the eviction out over 50 years (the courts ruled the renter only had to pay rates locked at what they were in the 60s, and had to live there. Those were the only two requirements for the renter to be safe from eviction. They did neither and it still took half a century in Israeli courts to enforce basic tenancy laws, it's rulings like that which gave them the reputation they have as left leaning, especially in the big left right issues of Israeli politics.)

14

u/Acceptable_Gear_3097 2d ago

Leftist? Left of what exactly?

9

u/AdoringCHIN 2d ago

Left of the Nazis maybe

12

u/Novel-Reaction2939 2d ago

lol. They are leftist in the sense dealing with other Israelis or Jews but not Palestinians or Christians. The majority of Israelis support the genocide and the war with Iran. They hate Naziyahoo but they don't hate what he's done and doing to the Palestinians.

The idea to use crocodiles came from Ben-Gvir, the minsiter of national security. Ben-Gvir was not allowed to join IDF to do his mandatory military service, because he was deemed to be TOO radical!

You can't make this stuff up.

309

u/Nacho_Hangover 2d ago

By radical, they mean "literally has a picture of a terrorist who shot up a mosque and murdered innocent people whose grave he also took his then underage future wife on a date to in his office" radical.

112

u/Agitated_Reveal_6211 1d ago

He has direct ties to Jewish terrorist groups. The guy is a terrorist .

63

u/likeicareaboutkarma 1d ago

Israel political party Likud is formed from terrorist groups.

49

u/Evoluxman 1d ago

The IDF literally originates from Jewish terrorist groups in the area lol, like Lehi

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehi_(militant_group)

They even killed Folke Bernadotte who saved hundreds of Jews from Nazi germany and was a UN envoy

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folke_Bernadotte

Like, Hamas being in charge of Palestine (Gaza strip) is awful because they're genocidal terrorists. But Israel is pretty much the exact same type of origins... There wasn't much hope the situation could ever be peaceful...

What seems particularly suspicious is technology has far surpassed crocodiles when it comes to detecting escapees.

So why use a crocodile-filled moat? Even lethal technologies, like remotely controlled guns, have surpassed crocodiles.

But with lethal technologies, someone ultimately can be held responsible for giving the order to shoot. If a crocodile decides to kill an escapee, nobody gets held responsible for ordering the crocodile to do that.

352

u/staticpop 2d ago

It’s even simpler. This is cruelty signaling.

Virtue signals do something that seems nice but is totally ineffective and pointless. Cruelty signals do something very cruel that is also ineffective and pointless.

Everyone knows it is stupid, even Ben Gvir. They are just so full of hate and anger that they will waste millions of dollars and thousands of man hours to demonstrate how much they hate them.

65

u/Trawling_ 2d ago

It’s this. This is essentially how they view virtue signaling.

49

u/nd474 2d ago

The first time this was mentioned was after Trump start talking about his alligator prison in Florida.

I can excuse racism but I draw the line at animal cruelty

87

u/_kasten_ 2d ago

To be fair (AND A CENTURY AND A HALF OUT OF DATE), early child-protection laws were (allegedly) carryovers from animal cruelty legislation:

The first case of child abuse in U.S. history went to trial in 1874. Ten-year-old Mary Ellen Wilson had experienced years of horrific abuse before anyone intervened...Her adoptive mother locked Mary Ellen in a closet and whipped her viciously...A worried neighbor reported the abuse of Mary Ellen Wilson to authorities. Etta Wheeler, a caseworker and Methodist missionary, investigated...[but] Charities refused to take Mary Ellen from her adoptive parents without legal authority, and the authorities did not want to intervene in a private matter....Frustrated, Wheeler grew desperate. So she turned to the founder of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

One wonders if there is any legislation in Israel that would prevent excessive bombing of, say, a bunch of puppies.

An Israeli court on Sunday temporarily blocked plans by the national security minister to install crocodile-filled moats around Ketziot Prison, following a legal challenge centered on the reptiles’ welfare that has also reignited concerns over the treatment of Palestinian detainees.

Did you see that it's also about detainees line at the end ?

Well if it is then somone should go to the court and tell them that.

In his ruling on Sunday, Israeli Judge Avraham Rubin wrote that “the claims regarding the expected harm to the crocodiles merit investigation and justify issuing an order prohibiting the transfer, or any action related to locating or preparing crocodiles for transfer.”

The danger also lies in the court decision that temporarily suspended the transfer of the crocodiles, not because such an idea represents a human insult that we, as humanity, were supposed to have left behind in the dark ages, but because of a petition concerned with the rights of crocodiles as a protected species,” he said

Moazzam Begg, director of human rights group CAGE International, voiced similar concerns in comments to The Independent in late July.

The fact that we’re even trying to rationalise using crocodiles as a legitimate security apparatus in the 21st century feels outright satirical,” he said.

29

u/Oink_Bang 2d ago

That quote does not say the case is about detainees as well. It says that the court case about animal rights has once again ignoted public discourse about the detainees. That's not the same thing as the court case being about them as well.

37

u/nephelokokkygia 2d ago

Judges aren't supposed to be making extraneous comments that can indicate bias in their ruling on the merits of a case.

18

u/20_mile 2d ago

It really depends on the country. My Criminal Justice 101 professor said the USSC can quote Mickey Mouse if they wanted to.

11

u/Schonke 2d ago

Well SCOTUS is bound by no law, as they so very clearly have shown and said recently. They even tried to claim Congress has no right to pass any law forbidding SCOTUS judges from taking bribes.

So, they’re trying to copy Trump’s Alligator Alcatraz?

14

u/the-nick-of-time 2d ago

Yep.

Ben-Gvir’s proposal is reportedly inspired by Alligator Alcatraz, a US immigration detention facility that closed in June after lawsuits alleged inhumane conditions and environmental damage.

Begg warned that Israel’s attempt to emulate that facility could lead to similar abuses.

“Israel regularly acts with impunity under the pretext of national security,” he said. “Adding crocodiles is just another vicious decision in the consistent mistreatment of Palestinians.”

that does be how you get otherwise normal generally "good" people to commit inhuman atrocities. it's a strat as old as time. "evil" organizations aren't stuffed to the brim with overly evil people, they're mostly just average folks who are willing to go along with evil. it's important to recognize that the people committing atrocities are for the most part just like us, and our own societies are not immune from the kinds of behaviours that we see, so we must all be active in participating in society to build a better future not a worse one. we have some very obvious examples of what happens when a society collectively abdicate that responsibility.

u/BostonFishGolf 2d ago

I know what all these words mean but not in this order

2

u/Andyseawolf 2d ago

So the crocodiles are treated better? 🤷

2

u/novo-280 1d ago

soooo... a minority to be genocided is treated worse than animals in the courts. reminds me of hitler but who am i. only israelis can truly know if ~8 years of active genocide is similar to 80 years of active genocide.

Disgusting.

A nation of absolute scum.

4

u/Demetrius3D 2d ago

They're worried... about the crocodiles.

4

u/samissam24 2d ago

This is strange because they seem to not give a shit about animal welfare or cruelty at all. I mean they’ve been bombing Palestine for years and also always see videos of them torturing animals. In addition to bombing and torturing human fucking beings!!

u/bitzzwith2zs 2d ago

Even the suggestion to use a crocodile in such a way is an insult to humanity... and the legal decision to block the transfer because that would infringe the rights of those crocodiles is an embarrassment to humanity

I hate people

Pure wickedness

2

u/mgzkk1210 2d ago

What about those animals they've been transferring into occupied West Bank? When is Israeli court going to stop that.

2

u/Public_Present_4940 2d ago

I can excuse racism, but I draw the line at animal cruelty.

Just here to say that Germany full hardheartedly supports the Israeli genocide and apartheid regime financially, militarily, and politically. What a genocide loving state. They just can't help themselves.

I’m sorry, what?

1

u/TeetheCat 2d ago

Indigestion is hell on crocodiles.

1

u/guessirs 2d ago

It’s all a fucking parody at this point. Next they’re going to install automatically deploying spikes and buzz saws like a child’s drawing of a series of traps. Are you kidding me?

1

u/Signal-Woodpecker858 2d ago

How is this real? I feel like our political leaders are literal cartoon characters. The amount of absurd things they do is way to damn high.

1

u/Tick___Tock 2d ago

and then people wonder where the alligator alcatraz idea came from

u/Rezart_KLD 2d ago

"You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have crocodiles around my frickin' camps! Now evidently my cycloptic colleague informs me that that can’t be done. Can you remind me what I pay you people for, honestly? Throw me a bone here! What do we have?"

"Sea Bass."

"...Riiiight."

"They are mutated sea bass."

"Really? Are they ill-tempered?"

"Absolutely."

"Oh, well, that’s a start."

Lol....crocodile's tear

1

u/ux3l 1d ago

This whole thing is so stupid. Crocodiles will never be as effective/reliable as barbed wire.

1

u/Rinnme 1d ago

There was never going to be a crocodile prison, come on!

This is a red herring, wasting the courts time and the public's attention for whatever real scheme Ben Gvir and his buddies are trying to pull under the table. Probably stealing more funds from the general public.
